When the allied planned to commence attacking the European fortress they decided to begin with the ‘’soft belly’’: Italy and they launched operation Husky,  the invasion of Sicily.

So between the 9th and the 10th of July 1943 operation Husky was started. American and British forces landed from the sea and from the air in Sicily to reject the Germans and the Italian troops from the Island.

Visitors exploring Sicily’s World War II history need expert guidance. Unlike Normandy, the Sicilian beaches are not dotted with mementos and monuments to the invading forces.
